### MTBF calculator

NIST and SEMATECH, *e-Handbook of Statistical Methods*, section 8.4.5.1: MTBF is total operating time divided by the total number of failures. U.S. Army, TM 5-698-1, glossary: MTBF is the exposure time divided by the number of failures in that period. U.S. Department of Defense, MIL-HDBK-338B: MTBF is a basic measure of reliability for repairable items.

### MTTR calculator

IEC 60050-192, International Electrotechnical Vocabulary, Part 192: Dependability, on Electropedia. Entry 192-07-23 defines mean time to restoration as the expectation of the time to restoration, and deprecates "mean time to repair". Entry 192-07-06 defines time to restoration from the instant of failure, or from its detection when that instant is unknown. Entries 192-07-19 and 192-07-21 define repair time and mean repair time, which exclude technical, administrative and logistic delays.

### CMMS ROI calculator

NIST Handbook 135, *Life Cycle Costing Manual for the Federal Energy Management Program*, section 6.4: simple payback is the time for cumulative savings, net of costs, to recover the initial investment. It is undiscounted, and NIST calls it a screening measure. U.S. Department of Energy, Federal Energy Management Program, *Operations & Maintenance Best Practices Guide*, chapter 4: the cost and benefit lines. NIST, *The Costs and Benefits of Advanced Maintenance in Manufacturing* (NIST AMS 100-18): downtime includes the capital and labor cost of a stop, and the revenue lost to it. Plant Services, David Berger, P.Eng., "How to prepare a cost justification document using your CMMS": inventory is worth the cash freed times the interest rate, and staff time is cash only when headcount changes.
